Shawyntee Mayo, M.D., M.P.H., is a board-certified preventative pediatric cardiologist at the University of Florida Health Jacksonville Congenital Heart Center. As one of the only preventative pediatric cardiologists in the state of Florida, she is an expert in reducing the risk of heart disease in children by identifying and managing factors such as high blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol.
Dr. Mayo earned both her medical degree and her master’s in public health from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, before completing a pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. She comes to UF from Wolfson Children’s Terry Heart Institute in Jacksonville, where she served as director of preventative pediatric cardiology.
With publications including co-authorship on national guideline papers for the American Heart Association and numerous speaking engagements locally and nationally, Dr. Mayo has made a name for herself as a leading voice in preventive pediatric cardiology.
She knew from a young age she wanted to be a pediatrician and places a high value on helping families during trying times when they most need care and support.
“I’m committed to providing the highest standard of care possible in every interaction with patients and their families,” she said. “My goal is to listen intently, ensure each child and family feels heard and seen and make sure they clearly understand the plan as we move forward together with treatment.”
