Wei Wang, MD

Hello, my name is Dr. Wei Wang, and I am a pediatric critical care provider at the UF Health Congenital Heart Center.

My interest in medicine began when my younger brother was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and underwent three open-heart surgeries. I was deeply moved by the collaborative efforts of his healthcare team, which inspired me to pursue a career in the field.

As a physician, my primary goal is to offer patient-centered, compassionate care to critically ill children with cardiovascular disease. I see myself as just one part of an exceptional, interdisciplinary team that includes surgeons, intensive care unit doctors, cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, therapists, administrators, and support staff. Together, we strive to provide the best care possible for children with critical cardiovascular conditions. Currently, my academic interests include medical education, quality improvement, and simulation. I am particularly focused on using medical simulation to replicate clinical scenarios in a safe environment, allowing healthcare providers to practice and refine their skills.

I graduated summa cum laude from Emory University in Atlanta in June 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance. I earned my Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville in May 2016, graduating with honors in research. I completed my pediatrics residency at Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA in Los Angeles from August 2016 to June 2019. Following that, I pursued a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at Shands Children’s Hospital in Gainesville from July 2020 to June 2023.

Outside of work, I enjoy practicing yoga and traveling with my husband. As a musician, I also find joy in playing classical music on the flute.
